Let Us Dance Into The Night

Don't look so sad, shake off the blues
Put on a smile, take off your shoes
See the rose here in my hand?
Now you're under my command
No permission to refuse

Open your hair and close the door
Then dim the lights a little more
So many things that you can do
To keep your mind from being blue
You'll feel much better than before

Now turn the music way down low
And let go of the world around
Let us dance into the night
Hold me close, hold me … yeah ...

Oh what a pretty flower dress
You must be warm in it, I guess
See right next to you the chair
You can put your flowers there
I adore you even more with less

I like your sexy lingerie
Even though I have to say
Wearing nothing but your skin
From your knees up to your chin
You would really make my day

The Sky Is Still Blue

A warm and sunny afternoon
And everybody has left but me
A road has ended much too soon
So many sunsets were left to see

The party is over
And you are asleep in your bed
And I'm standing here
Thinking everything I've never said

A mountain before me
That looks like it's too hard to climb
If only I could
I would turn back the time

It's getting dark, and I should go, but I wonder
How could I turn round and walk away?
Time standing still, my place is here in the moonlight
Dreaming forever of yesterday

The leaves on the trees are still green
And the sky is still blue
And yet it is not the same world
A world without you

Time for a kiss
But you are asleep in your bed
And I'm standing here
Thinking everything I've never said

I want to feel your warm skin when I wake up
Make love to you till dawn
Swallow your tears and be there when you're afraid
And hold you every night, but now you're gone

Don't Lean on Your Broom

The floor needs a-sweepin'
Wake up, don't lean on your broom
You feel like a-sleepin'
But mood spelled backward is doom

Knuckle on down
Pull yourself together
Pick up that pace and peg away
No loungin' around
No matter the weather
It's time to work not to play

You'd rather go fishin'
Oh well, don't lean on your broom
Don't waste time wishin'
'Cause mood spelled backward is doom

Get on the stick
These rocks need a-heavin'
Work 'em all fingers to the bone
All the way down to the quick
Let's see some achievin'
Let's see some character honed

Shoulder to the wheel
The man above, He'll be pleased
You know, the fellow down below
Plays with idle hands
You move them, he'll say "Thanks, but no
I think I'd better go"

Shoulder to the wheel
God above, oh He'll be pleased
You know, that Lucifer below
He plays with idle hands
You move them, he'll go "Thanks, but no
I'd better hit the road"

So roll up 'em sleeves
The rug needs a-beatin'
Nobody lingers in this room
Get goin' rakin' 'em leaves
No textin', no tweetin'
No time to lean on your broom

So Much for Love

Could have sworn that you were mine
What with all those nights divine
Foolish games I thought were past
That cloud nine was here to last

You so had me with your charms
I felt easy in your arms
Then one early morning dawn
I reached over, you were gone

So Much for Love
It always lets me down
It never stays around
I fall back to the ground

Found an only long blonde hair
On the pillow that we shared
And a yellow Post-it note
With a hollow parting quote

That's all I have left of your stay
That and one more
Heartache to smile away

So I turn back to square one
Nothing new under the sun
What else can I do but cope again
The lot of us that hope so much for love

So Much for Love
It always lets me down
It never stays around
I fall back to the ground

Broken Chandeliers

I close my eyes and I see rivers of blue
And in their waves I see reflections of you
I see a million lights like stars in the sky
And I hear voices so familiar, like a sweet lullaby

I smile and listen as I drift into sleep
I feel the ground I cherish under my feet
I wander crowded streets, through meadows I run
I see your face and once again those happy days have begun

But then the night is over
And dreams turn to tears
I see broken chandeliers
Casting shadows in the morning sun

I close my eyes and I just follow my heart
And then it seems as if we were never apart
Some people left theirs in the city by the bay
Mine has been living on an island a few thousands miles away

But when the night is over
The light disappears
Only broken chandeliers
And old memories are here to stay

Stranger to Your Ways

Another day, another shot at understandin'
It's complicated and hard to get
An open flame I can't resist to stick my hand in
I'm all but turned out in tails, and yet

I stand before you naked
A stranger to your ways
A weary-footed traveler
Roaming through a maze
You laugh and keep transforming
From saint to jezebel
And back again, I shuttle between
Paradise and living hell

Are you insane or playing games to cover sadness?
Sometimes you're nice, then nefarious and evil
I search in vain for the method to your madness
Like God you keep them mysterious

No telling how we make it
This stranger to your ways
Has bid adieu so many times
But in the end he stays
'Cause every time he turns to go
You snare him with your eyes
And suddenly it matters no more
Whether they tell truth or lies

Net provider
I am your butterfly
You are the spider
What if I can never get away?

You give and then you take it
You build and then you raze
The fact that I still hang around
Is stranger than your ways
But every time I've had it
You snare me with your eyes
And suddenly it matters no more
Whether they tell truth or lies

Am I insane? Is there method to my madness?
Am I a stranger to my own ways, too?

(I Dream of) Jingle Bells in June

Hear the telltale tintinnabulation
Santa Claus approaching in his sleigh
Steadily he steers that airborne nine-in-hand
Gifts galore are on their merry way

Logs of hawthorn crackling in the fireplace
Kisses underneath a mistletoe
Jack Frost sweeping through a winter wonderland
Children being jolly in the snow

Oh, I dream of jingle bells in June
People say I'm bit by the Christmas bug too soon
Any day it may appear
No matter what time of the year

In the crib I get an itch
Time to flip the Christmas switch
I tell myself, "Hey dude
Let's get in a festive mood"

So I walk out in the snow
Looking for some ho ho ho
Feeling like a frozen shrimp
Suddenly a killer blimp

In the sky keeps getting bigger
I'm about to pull the trigger
Sister yells "Don't be insane, dear
That is Santa and his reindeer"

I apologize, my bad
I hope Santa won't get mad
Too much white precipitation
Causes visual aberration

Me, I dream of jingle bells in June
People say I'm bit by the Christmas bug to soon
Any day out of the blue it may appear
No matter what time of the year

I dream of candy canes aglitter in the candlelight

The present she receives
She resents, so Holly leaves
Rocking not the best of shoes
For escaping caribous

Dasher, Dancer, Prancer, Vixen
Comet, Cupid, Donder, Blitzen
Rudolph and his ruby red nose
Can't be outrun in stilettos

Santa bellows, "Holly, buck up
Take your present, don't be stuck-up"
Holly, dropping her defiance
Takes her fancy new appliance

Yes, I dream of jingle bells in June
So you think I'm bit by the Yule bug much to soon
But you see, this state of mind does not begin but it transcends
My Christmas never really ends

And every plain and unadorned tree
I trim with tinsel in my fantasy

Rainy Day

It's been a rainy day
The sky above is crying
You're much too far away
Now I am on my own

Too many clouds of gray
Have put a ceiling on my world now
So here I'm bound to stay
And watch my silent phone

Oh what a lonely night
Is coming closer every hour
Soon I'll turn out the light
And go to sleep alone

Without your love the flowers lose their colors
And autumn leaves appear just black and white
Now the stars don't twinkle in the darkness anymore
You are the one that made them shine so bright

It's been a rainy year
Looks like the sky above is trying
To wash away the fear
You might be gone for good

The clouds appear to say
All I can do is to go through
Another rainy day
I don't know if I could

La-la-la-la-la-la, will my cloudy sky turn blue again?
Na-na-na-na-na-na, oh if it only would

La-la-la-la-la-la, will my old sun ever shine again?
Na-na-na-na-na-na, what is the likelihood?

Without your love I'm freezing in the wind that blows so cold
And up above a heaven without light
'Cause the stars don't twinkle in the darkness anymore
You are the one that made them shine so bright

One Last Time

I played the field, I cast my roving eye
I watched 'em come and go
Addicted to the thrill of novelty
But novelty faded fast

That first embrace, that first kiss, that first night
What else was there to know?
The second act would lose its thrill for me
Too many fish in the sea, but now this

Feels like a first gentle touch one last time
Could it be that yours are hands I'll want to hold forever?
Strangely, if you'd like to stay, I won't mind
Something tells me you and I were meant to be together

Been known to diss all talk of destiny
As some big fairy tale
And now it seems that you are testing me
And I'm preordained to fail

The moment I espied your silhouette
Sashay across the floor
A subtle shift, no fireworks, and yet
As clear as nothing before, and now this

Feels like a first tender kiss one last time
Could it be that yours are lips I'll want to kiss forever?

Must I surrender?
Acknowledge defeat in your arms?
You've enthralled me
Feels like falling

Feels like a first night of love one last time
Could it be I've gotten used to waking up beside you already?
For if you'd like to stay, I wouldn't mind at all
You're someone that I'd much rather keep than say goodbye to

The nearness of you blinds my roving eye
Kills my desire to roam
The world around bathed in a different light
And for the first time at last I feel at home

Blink of an Eye

The mask torn and tattered
Delusion lies shattered
My true self revealed
In the blink of an eye

More than suspicion
Cold recognition
Strikes as I feel myself
Shrinking inside

Remnants of conscience
Whispering softly
Pleading in vain
And then fading again

Dawn slowly breaking
The city awaking
A man's fate's been sealed
In the blink of an eye

Bound to commit
A new kind of betrayal
As fallacy ends
And deception begins

I walk as I tremble
Yet I must dissemble
The streets seem surreal
'Neath the pink morning sky

The old mask torn and tattered
Delusion lies shattered
A man's fate's been sealed
In the blink of an eye

Purple Skies

Everybody's fine, or everybody's lyin'
Everybody's fine, but everybody's dyin'
Feeling mighty good, hard to tell what's going on
Staring at the moon as day turns into dawn
Purple skies above
And a strange gray world below

Walking to the left, and moving to the right
I turn myself around, as day turns into night
A thousand lights so far away, drawing circles night and day
Make me want to laugh and cry and dance and pray
Purple skies above
And a strange gray world below

Oh what shall I do, I'm asking my ole clock
No more time to lose, and as I'm staring at my watch
I feel it itchin' in my shoes, in my legs, I can't keep still
Mountains can't be moved? Come watch me now they will
Purple skies above
And a strange gray world below

A Shot Of Rock'n'Roll

Feeling mighty good, everything is going swell
Your life runs like a peachy keen and happy carousel
After placid times, my dear, the ocean will get rough
A shot of rock'n'roll when the goin' gets tough

I didn't go to school to study top psychology
Couldn't spell 'depression' cause I ain't got no degree
But when you're feelin' down and there's a record machine
A shot of rock'n'roll, if you know what I mean

Just close your eyes and let the magic beat caress your soul
Gettin' high on rhythm is a beautiful goal
Knowing that you might get hooked on letting it roll
More so than on coke or making love

Yeah, drink a lot of juice and swallow tons of vitamins
Go to church to pray and have them pardon all your sins
If none of the above works out, then there's another way
A shot of rock'n'roll just a few times a day

Hey, close your eyes and let the magic beat caress your soul
Gettin' high on rhythm is a beautiful goal
Knowing that you might get hooked on letting it roll
More so than on coke or making love

Didn't go to school to study top psychology
Couldn't spell 'depression' caus I ain't got no degree
But when you're feelin' down and there's a record machine
A shot of rock'n'roll, if you know what I mean

Why Do We Remember ...

Why do we remember the past and not the future
How many days are unlived, can you tell?
Will you die at peace in your sleep or will they shoot ya
Are you gonna wake up in heaven or hell?

Where do all the creatures that live and breathe come from
How many are there, and what are their names?
Why is it nine-hundred degrees on planet Venus?
Just a bit to warm for the questions and games that we play every day

There's the stars above
More than grains of sand on all the beaches of this world
And then there's love
So near, yet more mysterious than anything out there could ever be

Why do we remember what's past that's caused us sorrow
As opposed to all of the good yet to come?
Why can't we just look at what happened tomorrow
Rattle the mind in the cage made of words other people think touch the truth?

Knowing what I know
I can take a mountain off the ground and let it fly
Just let it go
So don't you even try to tell me what I cannot do

I remember clearly the day that I was buried
No one showed up 'cause the weather was bad
Just a few gray birds and a preacherman were there
It felt kind of strange, maybe I should be sad
But I'm not, because soon I'll be born

Knowing what I know
I can take a mountain off the ground and let it fly
Just let it go
So don't you even try to tell me what I cannot do

If Looks Could Kill

With eyes like laser guns you stare at me
If looks could kill you'd go to jail
No way to know what's going on in that head of yours
But I'll be bold and take a guess
Let me see

You came to watch a show called jealousy
And now you want your money back
You came to see some raving madman smashing furniture
And call you names one could not say on TV

What kind of fool did you think I was
That I would try to tie you down to show my love for you
Go and have fun tonight
Yes dear, you heard me right
Go and find out tonight
If you like his touch more than mine

Now here's a thought I must have read somewhere
If you love something, let it go
If it comes back, it will be yours for eternity
If it does not, it never was yours at all

And now I hope you will understand
There is nothing in this world that I want more than you
I'll sleep alone tonight
And it will be alright
It makes no sense to fight
the path that heart wants to take

Why Does It Hurt So Bad?

Watching your silhouette fading
Things fell into place the way I'd hoped for, you're with him
And now the ties that held me down are but a shadow of the past
The weight on my shoulders's been lifted at last

Now you're gone, a chapter has ended
All that's left to do is take your picture off my wall
And for the first time in a while enjoy the taste of being free
Yet it is not like I thought it would be

Why does it hurt so bad?
Why do I feel this way?
Why is the sky so gray on a bright and sunny day?
If I could hold you now, I would give everything
Oh how I miss your touch more than words could ever say

Alone again, the world seems wide open
Funny how misleading the term freedom sometimes is
Without a doubt I'd feel less shackled if you held me oh so tight
Than I feel drifting all unfettered through the night

Why does it hurt so bad?
Why do I feel this way?
A whole new world so blue is shining through my tears

Feeling so cold in the heat of a summer night
I close my eyes and think of you

Why does it hurt so bad?
Why do I feel this way?
Why is the sky so gray?
Guess I wish that you would stay

Black Bowl of Fruit

Oh Lord and Jesus
The Bible says it's wrong
But it feels so right
We'll meet again tonight

My hands start to tremble when she knocks on my door
My heart beating faster than ever before
Her body is the apple, so ripe
Oh she's my black bowl of fruit

My knees are getting shaky like a leaf on a tree
Her big brown eyes burn holes in my skin, looking at me
Dinner is over
For dessert I'll have a black bowl of fruit

Even if I could resist the sweet temptation
Why on earth would I torture myself?
Even if I could reject a sweet sensation
What on earth would I do?

Drugs won't get my high
No, when I'm feeling low
I need a hot dose of vitamin love

A taste of tender cherries when she puts her lips on mine
Her chocolate-covered peaches send a shiver through my spine
I don't feel like white bread and milk
I want my black bowl of fruit

Ready to explode as we make love on the floor
My heart beating faster than ever before
Her body is the apple, so ripe, oh she's a black bowl...
Dinner is over, for dessert I'll have a black bowl...
I don't feel like white bread and milk
I want my black bowl of fruit

Oh yeah

Chains Of Deception

Get up and take your keys, just leave the rest to me
Open up that door, walk out, and you will see
I will stay alive, and in a couple weeks
A healthy looking color will return to my old cheeks

Some light found its way through the clouds
To feed my starving soul
Chains of deception dissolved
Back in control

Wherever you may go, whatever you will do
You can rest assured that I'll remember you
You burst into my life, cast spells, and now it seems
I was just a walk-on in a bunch of crazy dreams

The night has turned into day
Good morning my sleepy mind
Chains of deception dissolved
Back from the blind

Back on the road
Destination ahead, follow me
All distractions aside
That's the way it should be, can't you see?

The laughter and the party mood were over
It was a rainy Monday night
You took off the mask
No need to ask
Which face of yours was wrong
And which was right

Now take those stupid keys, turn 'round, it's time to go
Open up that door, walk out, but you should know
Things will be just fine, and in a couple days
I will sure as hell enjoy our seperate ways

The actress is clearing the stage
Fading applause in my head
Chains of deception dissolved
Back from the dead

Back on the road
Destination ahead, follow me
All attractions subside
That's the way it should be
Now I'm free
